Oh! My My! Cannes handle the Oomph & Glamour!

Well my fashion babies! Weren't we all still recovering from the Met Gala? And Cannes hit us fashion lovers badly. Can you imagine two fashion's biggest events back to back.. ? We even had no time to recover! Those gorgeous flowy dresses, those iconic poses and the flirty affair of stars with the shutterbugs, Cannes served us the fashion platter with panache. For the world its a summit of art and films but for fashion, its actually a glamours affair full of countless couture! Cannes is a mixture of Oscar night and Met Gala rolled-up together for 11 days! Imagine the parade of glitz and glamour we witness every year brought by celebrities to the French Riviera.

The stars descend and gather from all over the globe to promote their movies, brands and artistic achievements, wearing their best fairy tale gowns and dresses the world of fashion has to offer! Believe me, even Cinderella and her fairy God mother would have been jealous after seeing the long-trained gowns and breathtakingly gorgeous couture collections. Countless celebrities walk the red carpet and if you think you know all of them, let me tell you that you don't even know half of them. Some of the self-proclaimed celebrities, you don't even see all year round. They are like cherry blossom and appear once in a year wearing their loud gowns, which scream, ATTENTION! look at me damit!! just look at me!! i am here to prove the world that I am not dead,  am still relevant and my glamour haven't faded yet with the passing of time or with my back-to-back flop projects. I call them try-hard celebrities. (Opssy! I don't mean to be rude).

But there are some big names too from around the globe who grace the red carpet to showcase their movies, promote their brands, pose for the world media and to rub shoulders with each other. (Thank God! they keep the word 'prestigious' attached to Cannes Film Festival). From Penelope Cruz, Salma Hayek, Bella Hadid  to Elle Fanning, Julianne Moore and Sonam Kapoor, this year's Cannes film festival was nothing less than a runway collection on those steps of Palais des Festivals! Its very difficult to gauge the fashion meter of all the looks but I have few of my best and worst of this year's film festival. So hold tight cos its going to be a bumpy ride!

The Best!
Elle Fanning in Valentino
The Valentino gown from the back
This was the year of all things Elle Fanning! She was the darling of high fashion marathon every time she graced the red carpet. Being a part of this year's prestigious film festival jury, Elle came to dominate and captivate hearts, which she surely did. I couldn't take my eyes off her and she deservingly ended-up on every best dressed list possible. Her fashion parade was nothing less than spectacular. She walked the carpet in a mesmerising floral gown by Valentino with braided hair and looked every bit the Queen of moors! I am sure Maleficent agrees with me.

Elle Fanning in Christian Dior
Later in the evening she slipped into a beautiful Christian Dior patterned ball gown with minimalistic makeup and her hair let down. Elle is my new favourite fashion Goddess! This wasn't it for the diva.
Elle Fanning in Dior Haute Couture
I wasn't expecting her to kill it the second day too! But she gracefully did and I am in awe of her team and the fashion choices they made. She had no mercy on us and showed-up wearing an ensemble from the Haute Couture collection of Dior. I don't know where to begin with, the outrageously beautiful hat, that gorgeous sheer top and that beautiful tulle skirt, Elle fits the bill perfectly! She looked like she is ready for the Queen's annual garden party! Everyday she taught us how to turn heads and be a darling of events. Some celebrities should take fashion notes from her.
Elle Fanning in Peach Blossom Gucci
I am sure her peach blossom Gucci gown and Chopard jewellery made every other celebrity go green with envy. The gown made her look like she magically appeared from the pages of the fairy tale books. Elle looked every bit of a princess we hope she is at heart!
Elle Fanning in Prada
That delicate porcelain doll! Elle made sure we remember her Cannes looks for years to come. Her nude Prada tulle dress and Chopard jewellery made her unrelentingly spot on for the evening party.

Elle Fanning in Reema Acra
Let's give a shout out to her stylist Samanth McMillan and her vision of creativity. On the closing day of the ceremony she chose to wear a whimsical bridal gown from the house of Reema Acra and we couldn't thank her enough for such a grand end to her fashion parade at the Cannes film festival.

Bella Hadid in Roberto Cavalli
Bella Hadid made sure that all eyes are on her wearing the scarlet red, thigh-high slit dress from Roberto Cavalli. The drop-dead gorgeous gown raised the hotness quotient of the festival up few notches. A Greek worrier princess born from the womb of Aphrodite.

Sara Sampaio in Rami Kadi
All that glitters is not gold or silver its Sara Sampaio in Rami Kadi. The Victoria's Secret model's glittering jumpsuit with a dramatic train was a breathe of fresh air. The space queen meets the disco diva look made her stand apart from rest of the crowd. She served us not one but with two best looks on the carpet.
Sara Sampaio in Armani Privé
Black Swan never looked so elegantly sexy! The black Armani Privé ball gown stole the show. Sara made it clear that she is the next generation's style inspiration wearing this gorgeous number. I can't wait to see what future has in store for this pretty fashion icon. You go girl!

Kendall Jenner in Giambattista Valli & H&M
Pretty in Pink! Kendall Jenner stole the show and made shutterbugs crack wearing a beautiful hot pink Giambattista Valli & H&M strapless, multiple tier gown to the amfAR Cannes gala. The gown is very exclusive as it is one of the first collaborative pieces of Giambattista & H&M, which didn't even launch yet in the market. If you ask me, she looked like a very expensive loofah. High fashion guys, high fashion.
Julianne Moore in Chloé
Somber silhouettes and paisley embroidery on point! Julianne Moore took this classic asian look and kicked it out of the park. This refreshingly rare Chloé gown enhanced her looks and accentuated her curves perfectly. Her lively Chopard jewellery punctuated the inky look.

Dakota Fanning in Armani Privé
Once upon a time in Hollywood Fanning sisters came to slay! If Elle Fanning killed each look she walked in, Dakota Fanning was not behind. She outshined everyone wearing a vey regal and classic ball gown from the house of Armani Privé. The flattering fit, the classic bow on the waist and the dreamy princess qualities of the gown made her one of the best dressed celebrities of the night. I couldn't even notice a single crease on the dress! This is what you call a real couture!

Priyanka Chopra in Roberto Cavalli Couture
Wowza black magic woman! Priyanka Chopra Jones made sure we remember her debut Cannes look for years to come. Her stunning Roberto Cavalli couture thigh-high slit ensemble did justice to her curvaceous figure. The best part about her look was the minimalistic makeup and her curls cascaded down the shoulder. She surely set fire on the red carpet.
Priyanka Chopra in Georges Hobeika
Her second look was a wedding gown from the house of Georges Hobeika as if her million actual wedding dresses and ceremonies were not enough. I think she is still not over with her whirlwind romance.  She made the Cannes stand still with her captivating dress, which had a cloud of tulle and her favourite accessory for the night - Nick Jonas, wearing a matching white coloured suit to complement her wify. The couple's presence was sheer magic at the red carpet.

Stella Maxwell in Atelier Versace
Stella Maxwell was easily one of the best dressed celebrities at the amfAR Cannes gala. The Victoria's angel made the hearts stop wearing an amazingly gorgeous creation from Atelier Versace. The silver scale elements and Swarovski crystals of the dress made the outfit unforgettable.

Eva Longoria in Alberta Ferretti
Eva Longoria showed us how its done! She surely knew how to bring oomph and glamour to the South of France wearing a thigh-high slit dress from Alberta Ferretti. A regular at the festival from more than a decade, Eva has given us some iconic looks over the years and this year was no exception. The gorgeous diva wowed us yet again!

Natasha Poly in Atelier Versace
Sparkle fever! Natasha Poly shined like a diamond wearing a very exclusive design from Atelier Versace. The dress with a hood gave us sexy antagonist vibes and she pulled it off amazingly. The silhouettes of the dress accentuated her sexy curves perfectly.

Selena Gomez in Louis Vuitton

Selena came to slay! Selena Gomez made a bold statement wearing the satin and leather bustier with a thigh-high slit floor-length, quilted skirt from Louis Vuitton. Inspired from Madonna's 1991 Cannes look, she did justice with the outfit. Her sparkles from Bulgari added just the right amount of shimmer. She maybe running through the jungle with the wolves but she managed to reach fashionably on time.

Sonam Kapoor in Ralph & Russo
A vision in white, Sonam Kapoor wore a custom made Ralph & Russo tuxedo dress to the screening of 'Once Upon A Time In Hollywood.' Featuring a plunging neckline, Sonam showed us yet again how its done. The actress paired her white tuxedo with a statement neckless by Chopard and shoes by Jimmy Choo. Sonam proved us that she is a glamour Goddess and can never go wrong with her fashion choices.

Like I said earlier there were million other looks to notice but the above mentioned were some of the best and worth writing about.  Other best dressed celebrities I should mention are Guan Xiao Tong in Atelier Versace, Penelope Cruz in Chanel haute couture, Diana Penty in Nedret Taciroglue, Salma Hayek in Alexander McQueen and Adriana Lima in Michael Kors.

The Worst
Every year we have some rotten apples mixed with the fresh batch and this year was no exception. The amount of fashion travesties were excruciatingly intolerable. I was baffled and desperately wanted to know what their stylists were thinking.  Lets have a look at few of the disastrous looks of this years's film festival.

Deepika Padukone in Giambattista Valli
Overused Loofah with a juvenile bow! I know she should take risks with her fashion choices but this time she went overboard wearing a Giambattista ensemble. She left no stone unturned to get noticed and trust me she was noticed for all the wrong reasons according to me. She looked like a lime green fungus with a mushroom on her head. (I guess it was suppose to be a rose). Deepika if you ever read this, here is a suggestion, please fire your stylist!

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in Jean-Louis Sabaji

Christmas tree wrapped in a cheap metallic paper and its not even Christmas yet! Aishwarya Rai Bachchan wore a disastrous Jean-Louis Sabaji gown, which looked as if it was made in an origami classroom. The six plastic mat like trains of the gown looked very alienish and absurd. The unflattering silhouettes of the gown was the last nail in the coffin.

Marion Cotillard in Chanel
Chanel never looked so cheap! Marion Cotillard showed-up in an unfaltering ensemble from Chanel, which would haunt me for days to come. It looks like she got the fabric from some corner fabric store and got it stitched at a local boutique. The immature crop top with a cringey skirt is worth being listed for a worst dress nomination award.

Araya Hargate in Jean Paul Gaultier
Look we have a vampire on loose and her thirst is unquenchable, somebody call ghostbusters please! Looks like Araya Hargate got the invitation wrong, she thought she is coming to a Halloween party. The Jean Paul Gaultier gown was a nightmare. The high-waisted gown with batwings like shoulders looked very fashionably scary.

Margot Robbie in Chanel
A little girl out of Kindergarten! I know Margot Robbie was there to promote her next movie 'Once upon a time in Hollywood' which is set in 1960's but she could have picked-up an elegant representation of that era instead she showed up in a very mediocre 1960's look. The unflattering Chanel outfit did no justice to her gorgeous figure or to that era.

Chlöe Sevigny in Miu Miu

Murder in the name of fashion! What on earth was she wearing, I am still trying to figure out. Chlöe Sevigny showed up wearing a Miu Miu dress and she should be charged guilty for such a fashion crime. The pink extremely short dress with a black bow on the shoulder, which looked like she is carrying a dead animal in a bag was the disaster of the highest order. From the black and pink combination to absurd design of the dress, this Miu Miu number is not fit for any occasion.

2019 Cannes was as grand and full of glitz & glamour as I expected.  This year, we saw some iconic looks, which will stay in the fashion archives for ages to come. I will see you next year Cannes! Cheers!
